Program

Childhood obesity and bariatric surgery program

A comprehensive pathway for children and adolescents with obesity and their families. Surgery is one part of the path. At the center is long-term support from an interdisciplinary team.

Who it is for

Children and adolescents with obesity. Each case is evaluated individually. Those who are not surgical candidates receive medical management within the same program, with the same team.

The pathway, step by step

  1. First visit

We get to know your child, their history and what your family hopes for.

  2. Interdisciplinary evaluation

Each specialist on the team reviews their health.

  3. Treatment plan

We agree with your family on the path: medical management or surgery.

  4. Treatment

When surgery is indicated, we use minimally invasive techniques.

  5. Five-year follow-up

Regular visits with the team to sustain results.

The team

Pediatric surgery

Evaluates each case and performs the procedure when indicated.

Gastroenterology

Aligned with international standards

The program follows the guidelines of MBSAQIP, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Questions parents ask

Does my child need surgery?

Not always. Many children and adolescents improve with medical management. Surgery is considered only when the team recommends it after a full evaluation.

Will my child or my family be judged?

No. Obesity is a chronic disease with many causes. Our job is to understand it and support you.

How long is the program?

Follow-up lasts five years. How often visits happen depends on each case.

What should I bring to the first visit?

Your child's medical records, recent tests and a list of any medications.

I live outside Colombia. Can my child join the program?

Yes. Message me on WhatsApp and we will plan the evaluation and follow-up with your family.
